June 2026 Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus Awareness Month Highlights

Together, We Made Some Noise!

In June, Canadians from coast to coast came together to celebrate Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Awareness Month and boy, were we loud!

Our community came together in incredible ways: lighting landmarks across the country in blue and green, filling walk routes with smiling faces, sharing personal stories, connecting through events and webinars, and reaching healthcare professionals with important education and awareness initiatives.

Together, we made more noise than ever before, helping more Canadians understand Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus while celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of our community.

A Month of Awareness, Connection, and Celebration

Throughout June, awareness grew across Canada through:

  • Lights Across Canada, where landmarks from coast to coast shone bright in blue and green to recognize Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Awareness Month.
  • Community events, including the Celebrate Live Dream Walk, Wheel & Run in Toronto and Troy’s Trail Spirit Walk, Wheel & Run in Sault Ste. Marie, bringing families, friends, and supporters together.
  • Educational opportunities, including webinars and resources designed to support individuals, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Community campaigns, including the Hugs & Smiles Contest, Lemons Across Canada, and our collaboration with Teaching Awareness Through Puppetry (TAP). Through a special video series, Bonnie and Andrew interviewed members of the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus community, highlighting the many ways they stay active through sport, recreation, and creative arts in their local communities.
  • Personal stories, celebrating the experiences, resilience, and voices of individuals and families across Canada.

Together, these initiatives sparked conversations, built understanding, and celebrated the strength of our community from coast to coast.

Reaching Further, Together

Awareness Month is about more than a single month on the calendar, it’s about creating lasting change.

Through national campaigns, digital outreach, community partnerships, and targeted education for healthcare professionals, we continued to increase awareness, encourage conversations, and help ensure that individuals and families impacted by Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus feel supported and connected.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Story

Thank you to everyone who shared their story, attended an event, volunteered, donated, partnered with us, or helped spread the word. Every action made a difference and helped make this year’s Awareness Month one of our strongest yet.

June may be over, but our work and our momentum continue.

There’s still so much to come in 2026, and we hope you’ll be part of it. Together, we’ll continue raising awareness, sharing our stories, supporting one another, and creating meaningful change for everyone impacted by Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus.

The conversation doesn’t end here, it’s only just beginning.
