Through creative workshops\,\nmentorship\, and community engagement\,\nparticipants develop a deeper sense of self\, connect\nwith peers and leaders\, and work together on projects\nthat create social change. \nThe program is grounded in three core pillars: \n1. Self-Identity (Weeks 1–5)\nThis phase supports participants in exploring who they\nare\, how their experiences shape them\, and how to show\nup safely and authentically in various experiences. \nExample Activity:\nFound Poetry and Found Self Portrait: Cohort members\nused various found media (books\, magazines\,\nnewspapers) and art supplies (paper\, scissors\, glue\,\nmarkers\, photos) to create poetry and portraits that\nreflect who they are and what they want their cohort to\nknow about them. \n2. Community (Weeks 6–11)\nThis phase supports participants as they learn how to\nbuild safer communities\, explore what Disability and\nNeurodivergent communities look and feel like in their\narea\, and strengthen the community of the cohort itself. \nExample Activity:\nGuest Speaker Series – Local Disabled and\nNeurodivergent folks working in community spaces will\njoin session to talk about themselves\, their history and\napproach to community building\, and the lessons they’ve\nlearned along the way. Participants will have the\nopportunity to ask direct questions to each guest\nspeaker.\n3. Social Impact (Weeks 12–15)\nThis phase supports participants as they learn how to\nplan\, design\, and build actions that create sustainable\nsocial impact. Participants will work independently and\ncollaborate on real-world projects aimed at social\nchange. \nExample Activity:\nMap Missions – Cohort members will work with the\nAccessNow team to access map a specific area of their\nneighborhood or the neighborhood of the AccessNow\noffices. Participants will use their lived experiences\,\ncommunity learnings\, and cohort support to mobilize\nknowledge about accessible\, and inaccessible\, spaces. \nActivation Project\nThroughout FUTURES\, participants work on an Activation\nProject – an initiative that reflects an issue they care\nabout. Whether it’s creating an awareness campaign\,\ndesigning accessible resources\, or planning an event\, the\nproject is a way to make real change inspired and driven\nby each participants’ identity\, passions\, and strengths. \n1-on-1 Mentorship\nEach participant is paired with a mentor who brings lived\nexperience or professional knowledge in Disability\nadvocacy\, the arts\, community organizing\, education\,\nand more. The mentors offer guidance\, encouragement\,\nand a safe space to grow – helping to build confidence\nand future pathways beyond the program. \nFUTURES is a space for discovery\, empowerment\,\nand impact—where young people are celebrated as\nleaders of today and tomorrow.
