Community Recreation Events - Youth Week 2018

Toronto Sports Leadership Program
May 1, 2018

During Graduation Day all of our Toronto Sport Leadership Program (TSLP) participants will be congratulated on their success. During this day we celebrate all of our participant's progress and we close our program year. It is a great day where kids receive a special item to commemorate their time in the program.
This event is only for TSLP participants from the current year, and we have our sponsors and partners come by to congratulate the participants.

Connect to Learn (Mayor Invite Event)

This is a networking event for homeless youth across the City of Toronto to come together at Botanical Gardens to get access to different opportunities. There will be motivational speakers who will start and end the event as well as information kiosks that will be led by different organizations including, Toronto Public Health, Employment & Social Services, East Metro Mental Health, Humber College, George Brown College and more.
The goal is to create a one stop shop where youth can have access to opportunities in the areas of education, employment, financial aid, health and wellness and etc.

 

Art Gala

The gala will give young aspiring artists across Toronto an opportunity to display their work, network with industry professionals, have a chance to sell their art work and connect with Artsreach and OCA to learn about grants that are available as well as a platform to  get promoted on City of Toronto, Community Development & Youth Unit's Social Media platforms

Basketball

The event is to provide training and leadership skills to students who are interested in basketball and provide fundamental skill development to enable them to pursue basketball at various levels and join the high school team.
They will participate in a basketball game and take advantage of learning outcomes driven from our full day activities and guest speakers

Youth will work alongside with 2nd year students from the George Brown culinary program who will teach them the fundamental of cooking.  Youth will learn more than just cooking, they will leave with the knowledge of  food hygiene and food preparation all while challenging themselves to create 2 main dishes.

The event will kick start youth week transforming Nathan Philip Square into a youth driven arts festival. Hundreds of young people will come together to celebrate YOUTH. The festival will include showcase in music, dance and spoken word all performed by local youth artist.

The festival is a model for community engagement, a celebration of youth culture, and a showcase for the richness and diversity of a new generation of filmmakers.
