Teen Talk is a series of social skill building workshops for youth with disabilities and their parents.

When and Where: Wednesday evenings from January 8 to April 16, 2014


In order to attend the workshop, teens must:

  • Have a parent with them at each session
  • Be 15-21 and still in high school
  • Have verbal communication skills
  • Be able to actively take part in goal setting, group discussions and self-reflection
  • Want to learn more about making and keeping friends
  • Want to start having get-togethers with friends



Teen sessions will include learning the following skills:

  • Having conversations
  • Choosing friends
  • Calling friends on the phone
  • Dealing with teasing, bullying, gossip and arguments
  • Having get-togethers with friends
  • Being a good host and a good sport


Parent sessions will focus on:

  • How to support teens and how to coach them outside the sessions
  • Parents will support teens in the take home tasks and help with practicing the skills and applying them to real life

Take home tasks are an important part of the program. Examples of take home tasks: making phone calls, practicing conversations, hosting a get-together, finding an activity and signing up for it.
