Open to writers of all abilities. Winners will be recognized at our third annual reception. Winning essays will be published on our website and in Outspoken magazine distributed by Spinal Cord Injury Ontario.

Entry Fees: $15 donation (multiple entries are encouraged. $5 for each additional entry)
Description: Choose from the following three topics and write an essay between 600 to 900 words
1. Do an analysis on a TV or movie character with a disability. Was this character being respectfully portrayed? Was this character a true reflection of someone who lives with a disability?
2. If you have a disability, describe a real life experience that demonstrates the kindness of strangers and how others have helped you believe in the goodness in people.
3. If you don’t have a disability, write about some of the barriers and hurdles that you believe people with disabilities are still facing and how can members from the rest of our society help people in the disability community?
Decision Process: Following the submission deadline, Board of Directors will strike an adjudicating committee and review and evaluate the submissions. The award recipient will be notified by email on the second week of September. The award recipient will also be invited to our third annual reception.
Only completed application packages will be reviewed by the adjudicating committee.
