Meet our September artist, Joseph Sedej from Toronto and read about him and his art:

Joseph lives in Toronto and was proud to organize two fundraisers in grades 7 and 8 at his school for SB&H. This painting is a Grade 8 art class assignment where students were asked to create an impressionist inspired painting.  Joseph chose the style of Vincent van Gogh and painted an image of Paris at night.

1. How did you come up with the idea for this drawing that is included inside the calendar.

My art teacher asked me to paint a picture in an impressionist style.  I really like Vincent van Gogh's paintings so I decided to paint a picture using his style.  It took three days to paint all the layers in this painting.

2. Why do you like drawing/painting or taking pictures?

My cousin Angela Anne is an artist and she gave my brother paint, brushes and canvasses for his birthday.  He never used them so one day I took all his supplies, sat on my back steps and painted a picture of my backyard in the winter.  Since then, I've painted three more paintings.

3. How did you feel when you heard your artwork was selected for the TGIF Calendar?

I was proud that I could make another contribution to an SB & H fundraiser.  I hope the calendars sell out this year because the proceeds help so many people.

4. What are your hobbies and interests?

I love playing basketball.  I'm going into my first year of high school and I hope to make the school team.  I'm a fan of the Toronto Raptors. I also like playing soccer, going up north in the summer and paintballing.

5. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I would like to be a scientist.
